For Tapmaster Inc.
Since its release in 1998 the, Tapmaster, has come to dominate the market of hands-free dental faucet control and is moving into the plumbing market. The product allows water to be controlled at the desired temperature without touching the taps, thus reducing the transmission of germs.
Two very specialized and innovative valves were developed. Key technical obstacles included:
- water hammer avoidance,
- resistance to particulates,
- achieving 1 million cycle lifetime and cost targets, and
- the development of a pressure feedback control system.
The pilot valve requires only a light touch and less than 1mm of excursion. A central molded silicone component embodies at least five key functional tasks. The product is completely mechanical with no pneumatics or electronics involved.
